About This Place

Located conveniently on Richmond Avenue in Houston, Al Aseel Grill and Cafe is a standout destination for authentic Middle Eastern cuisine that delivers a rich tapestry of flavors, textures, and aromas reminiscent of traditional home-cooked meals. Specializing in Middle Eastern fare, this cozy yet vibrant eatery offers a delightful array of dishes, from succulent lamb chops and tender lamb kebabs to their famously hearty half roasted chicken served over fragrant rice and fresh salad. Their menu is a flavorful journey featuring classics such as Mansaf منسف, Kabsi Chicken, and the impeccable hummus with meat (حمص بالحمة), alongside staples like naan and freshly grilled fish that exhibit a masterful balance of spices and freshness.

What truly sets Al Aseel apart is the way each dish bursts with an authentic, mouthwatering depth — imagine the juicy, perfectly grilled lamb kofta and chicken kebab that reviewers have praised for their generous portions and exceptional flavor. The smoky, caramelized notes in their Musakhan whole chicken — served atop pita bread with sweet onions — offer a comforting yet exciting experience for the palate. For seafood lovers, the tilapia baked or fried with marinated lemon, garlic, and olive oil provides a bright, zesty complement to the heartier meat dishes.

The beverage selection cleverly balances tradition and refreshment, featuring offerings such as classic Turkish or American coffee, fresh lemon mint, and a variety of fresh juices, all enhancing the dining experience with their refreshing and aromatic qualities. Not to mention, their soft drinks are an easy, budget-friendly addition for just $1.99.

The atmosphere at Al Aseel Grill and Cafe is one of warm hospitality and down-to-earth charm — a true neighborhood gem where the staff make you feel like part of a family gathering. Guests, like Annie Akhter, appreciate the cozy, casual vibe that invites diners to relax and savor every bite amidst welcoming smiles. Though the environment is casual and unpretentious — described by some as a "hole in the wall" — it doesn’t detract from the exceptional quality of the food. In fact, the authentic ambiance adds to the feeling that you are stepping into a personal kitchen where traditions and recipes are lovingly guarded.

Recent visitors highlight the friendly service and the vibrant, flavorful dishes that keep them coming back. Osama Basyouny raves about the freshly prepared chicken kebab and lamb kofta, while Gia Okubo felt right at home with the genuine hospitality and perfectly cooked grilled meats. Bartlet N even stumbled upon this hidden treasure by chance and was delighted by the authenticity and great pricing. Whether you opt to dine inside or take advantage of their popular takeout, the consistently excellent food and kind-hearted staff promise a memorable experience.

In summary, Al Aseel Grill and Cafe is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in Middle Eastern cuisine that respects tradition and delivers irresistible, soulful flavors. From their tender lamb kebabs to their luscious baba ganoush and fresh Turkish salad, every dish is a testament to the richness of Middle Eastern culinary heritage, served with warmth and a welcoming smile. For authentic taste, generous portions, and friendly service in Houston’s bustling Richmond Avenue corridor, Al Aseel stands proudly as a beacon of flavorful authenticity.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5) We visited Al Aseel Grill & Cafe recently and ordered the chicken kebab and lamb kofta, both were absolutely delicious! The food quality was excellent, flavorful, and freshly prepared. The portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable, making it a great value overall. We would easily rate the food 5/5, but the environment brings the overall experience down slightly. The dining area could use some improvements in terms of atmosphere and decor—it’s functional but not very inviting, so we’d rate that part around 3.5/5. Still, we’ll definitely be back for the food. Highly recommended if you’re looking for tasty and affordable Middle Eastern cuisine in Houston!

This Mediterranean spot serves up amazing food! The grilled meats were full of flavor, the rice was delicious, and the bread was warm and outstanding. The service was friendly and made us feel right at home. A great place for authentic Mediterranean flavors and genuine hospitality. Checkout my video with sound.

The food is incredible. We sat inside but you can tell a lot of people order out. The staff is very friendly and the food is, again, unbelievably good.

This place is a hole in the wall kind of restaurant, but the food was delicious. My boyfriend and I just happened to drive by and was curious so we gave it a try and we were so happy we did. It feels so authentic and we highly recommend it. Decent pricing as well.

We were so lucky to find this place. My favorite places are a cozy, casual ambiance and family involvement in the kitchen, using their family secret recipes. It was a sunday afternoon, we were driving on Richmond and saw this place. We walked in, and a friendly face came and took us to the table. It was raining outside, which made us hungrier, and we started ordering our favorite dishes. I took a picture of the menu so you can prepare for your next trip. Our server, Mehmood, was very kind and a great listener. Since this was our first visit, he suggested a few things. He also recommended the mint lemonade, which was so good, and I thank him for his help. Food came very fast, but our bread was a little harder. I think it got cold and became harder. Other than rice, chicken, salad, and hummus were very delicious. We loved every bite and the hospitality of Mahmood. Please try this place. I plan to go to Houston again during the holidays, and love returning for food and drinks. Thanks

It’s always a delight to come here. Service is always top notch as is the food. We always leave with leftovers since the portion of the food is big.
